On Tuesday, chaos unfolded outside the residence of BJP leader Arjun Singh in Bhatarpara, West Bengal, with reports of gunfire and bomb explosions disrupting the night. Singh, who asserts he has video evidence of the incident, described the attack as premeditated, instilling fear in the local community. In contrast, local MLA Somnath Shyam Ichini and law enforcement officials have denied these claims, stating that an investigation is underway.
Allegations of Gunfire and Bombing by Arjun Singh
Arjun Singh, a prominent figure in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleged that gunfire was directed at his home in Bhatarpara, located in North 24 Parganas district, along with the throwing of homemade bombs and vandalism of a vehicle. He reported that the incident occurred around midnight, causing smoke to fill the area.
The former MP recounted, 'I was watching television when I suddenly heard a commotion outside around 12:30 AM. Bombs were thrown, and shots were fired. I have video evidence. I rushed outside, and everyone fled.'
Sharing what he claims is CCTV footage of the incident, he remarked, 'During the attack, the police were running away. The condition of these poor officers is pitiable. If there had been a counterattack, lives could have been lost. This was all planned.'
Local MLA and Police Deny Allegations
Somnath Shyam Ichini, the MLA from the Trinamool Congress, refuted Singh's allegations, asserting that Singh himself is responsible for the violence in the area. Meanwhile, police officials stated that no gunfire or bomb explosions occurred and confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.
